Cat in Window, Red Curtains
Cat in Window, Red Curtains
Original OIl Painting
9 × 12
Oil on Linen
Maple Shadow Frame
The cats in the windows paintings came at the tail end of the lights in windows series that I describe below. I put the cat behind the curtains. That led to a whole new series! This one is painted loosely with the curtains glowing and a little scrafittio around the cat herself.
These nighttime paintings were a series I started in November and I wasn't sure where I was going with them. The idea for me was when I walk on a cold night and the windows of the buildings or homes are cozy and warm inside. The end result of these pieces are, to me, a moment in time. It is, as a painter, like creating a doll house with regard to rooms and colors and people. I don’t work from references and I think it makes for a more imaginative end result. Inventing is what is so appealing to me and giving each apartment a story. Like being a writer with paint
