This painting is one in a series of works I did from a visit to my daughter who lives in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. I visited recently and she had to work so I wandered around and took pictures of anything I thought was lovely. Turns out it was a lot of lovely things. Charleston has the feel of New Orleans and even Richmond, so the scenes are familiar to me. The goal was a feeling of Charleston and a moment in time. It is an amazing place to live and full of the old and the new and I did quote a few paintings of this beautiful town.
This painting was taken on a winter evening walking on King Street after dinner and it just was like a gift for my eyeballs to see the colors in the windows and the sky and I tried to capture it. I am never trying to paint a specific place but anyone who sees this one knows exactly where it is. My love is the color and the light!
