This piece is one from the series of mountain wall paintings that then morphed into the camping series. My brain works in an odd way, that is certainly true. But what happened when you paint the way I do at Nimrod, for 6 weeks straight, all day every day, the wheels start to turn and they move in a way you cannot really control. So a mountain wall is painted, and then you notice a campsite by the river, then it compounds itself to become this painting. It is a voyeuristic look at a simple camping. It is retro at heart with the young boy with this sailboat and the Mom in her tidy camping clothes (so you know it is retro) and then the hot pink tent that obviously is not. I play with color, That is my mission as an artist and this piece is a rendering of what a campsite should be. There is another smaller piece of the mother and boy.

This whole series came from seeing travel campers set up at the river edge on the Cowpasture River in Bath County, Va where I spent most of my summer. To be honest, the hot pink trailers were few and far between but…. As I would drive to town, I would have the windows down and listening to my favorite music and blasting the AC at the same time and see these little settlements of campers just right at the river. You can tell the river edge, but the way, by the tree line. Mine is painted overly simplistic, but there is field, trees, river, mountain and then came the campers. This is my opus to the campers and their perfect day.
