Part of my river painting series, the original of this piece is big! As this series went on and on I became less interested in real and more interested in what appeals to me. My love of the artwork of NC Wyeth and Edward Hopper and so many other artists who took liberties with scale and realism to make exciting paintings. Both of these artists were well known illustrators as younger artists and I did some of that as well. It just stretches the realism and narrative.

Occasionally someone will tell me with a sniff od disapproval that my paintings look illustrative. I know they mean that as a jab but I always think well thank you, actually, that makes me happier than you know. I love the idea that my art takes someone away to another place.
