This is an original Oil Painting

I had a week planned with other artists to paint in early June, Some of my best friends. And it rained. And it rained. And then it rained to a ridiculous extent that I had my studio all closed up and more interestingly to the painter in me, my oil paint was acting like a perfect stranger. And at first I was thinking I am the hell out of here but then it became so fun. It was taking a long time to dry but then it introduced a whole new way to paint, for me, that reminded me of my wet into wet painting of maybe 20 years ago. That is art talk for moving wet paint around on the canvas to get a color rather than mix the color and apply it. Anyway I digress, But I did some landscapes that in person I think are incredibly interesting. You can see the underpainting but it almost creates a landscape itself it is so thickly applies but then the colors are even more vivid with the technique I was forced to use due to the monsoon.

I experienced the well known quote -necessity is the mother of invention is what I am trying to say. And it was incredibly invigorating and required a lot of concentration and skills I had no used for years and years. i think it made this summers work so much better and i am, as always but even more so now, alert to the idea that the surface of a painting is every bit as important as the image.
