Oil on Linen

This is an original oil painting.

I did a small series of these paintings that are almost pure abstract colorist paintings except that they also are flowers. Maybe that is because I am surrounded by flowers fro ay until currently. I LOVE flowers. I mean everyone loves flowers I think but there is something very right about a hot pink flower in a sea of green foliage. And the variance of greens. Shall I go on? These paintings are large but accommodating to almost any place they would hang and the tactile layering makes them even more interesting in person. Obviously I am happy with them!

They probably look like I did it in an afternoon but they take longer than most any work I have ever done! The key is I have to dry between layers to get the vivid colors I want. I use a brush, a palette knife, my hands and anything I can use to make the paint sit on the canvas the way I want it! I use a lot of texture in my in my work and the direction of a swipe of paint can change the whole thing.
