Maple Shadow Frame

This painting was one that was quick to present itself and then took me a long time to get right. Sometimes I can fly through a work and it just is easy but this one had to be treated with every area taking my full attention. I am not sure why, but the pink dress is a hard one to pull off, and the composition of her on the back porch of Nimrod Hall, was, while clear in my head, harder to establish with my paint. The cat is a usual subject in my paintings and this one is especially graceful and patient. The while painting is at rest.

She is, as some of you may have guessed who follow my work, the laundry lady. At some point over the summer, she evolved. I am not sure how that happened and it was not a matter of just changing her clothing. Last year I did a painting with a woman in pink, who was one of the first of her truly without her black and white uniform on, although she has had occasional forays into other clothing. At any rate, she, as my friend Joan said, just put down that laundry.

The colors in this piece are much calmer in person than this shows it to be, Not as stark.
