Most all these tomato paintings are from this summer and many from my own two plants For me, as a painter, the reds in a tomato itself are more red than maybe any other thing. I liven apple but it seems opaque and a tomato literally glows from within because of the translucent skin, so to paint they are just unique. I musty have worked on this 3 times which is unusual for me, but the key to the rich reds of this one tomato is in the layers of transparent paint. Pretty much the perfect still life element.
