This is a subject I return to often. The simple and calming flower. And then the pop of color of the fruit beside it. There are so many masters who paint the simplest things and make me swoon, and I can be left emotionless by a massive battle scene that probably took 400 hours. But give me a Richard Diebenkorn knife in a glass and I am mesmerized. As a painter I got through phases where I can paint, walk away and be happy with it. Or just paint it until it loses its simplicity in which case I scrape it off and try, try again.
