All roads in my head and in my thoughts lead to King Street. I have ridden my bike down it . tottered in painfully high heels down it and have gone far down it to the coolest art store ever then back to The Battery. I never can get enough of the beauty and just joy in that one street. So I paint it.
This painting is one in a series of works I did from a visit to my daughter who lives in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. I visited recently and she had to work so I wandered around and took pictures of anything I thought was lovely. Turns out it was a lot of lovely things. Charleston has the feel of New Orleans and even Richmond, so the scenes are familiar to me. The goal was a feeling of Charleston and a moment in time. It is an amazing place to live and full of the old and the new and I did quote a few paintings of this beautiful town.
