One of my favorite paintings of the summer I feel I may always own since my subject matter is not going to bowl over the masses, but my hope is someone will love it the way I do. This piece is from the Mountain Wall Series, when campers started appearing, and tents, and pops of color became people, and people carrying coolers, and then parties, and all in all, the way happens. This piece was cobbled together with references from the hippest travel campers I could find, then I would paint them the greatest colors I could paint them and then put them all in an idyllic riverside setting in Virginia with the perfect camping day. It is idealistic, and I feely admit I live in an idealistic world in my paintings, but this is where I want to be on a beautiful Virginia Summer Day with no humidity, coolers full of cold beer, and no calories in the dips and chips that are certainly under the tent.

This whole series came from seeing travel campers set up at the river edge on the Cowpasture River in Bath County, Va where I spent most of my summer. To be honest, the hot pink trailers were few and far between but…. As I would drive to town, I would have the windows down and listening to my favorite music and blasting the AC at the same time and see these little settlements of campers just right at the river. You can tell the river edge, but the way, by the tree line. Mine is painted overly simplistic, but there is field, trees, river, mountain and then came the campers. This is my opus to the campers and their perfect day.
