Fishing and Geese
Fishing and Geese
48 x 60
Oil on Canvas
Gallery Wrapped 3.5 inch Unframed
This piece was inspired by an encounter with the wildlife fisheries employee who was releasing a formerly injured goose back into the wild one day when I was running at Pony Pasture on the James River. The agent was very enamored of the finally recovered goose and it made me really look at them for the first time although I had seen them often, and I realized they are pretty amazing animals and might be fun to paint. The children fishing are imagined and were not actually there as this was painted in the winter, it seemed the geese needed them to complete the work. I pushed the envelope with this piece in the direction of a narrative, although none truly existed, but to me it would be the perfect summer day for two lucky kids and a few lucky geese.
