Something I should admit is that I do not normally paint from any kind of reference. I did a painting this summer for my students to show them how I create my scenario’s strictly from my own memories of how color falls on things and the years of painting I have done. I will sometimes reference an exact shape- like with the trailers in the series of campers, to get them correct, but the people are invented and just come from my own imagination. This particular piece is one of my favorites. I listen to al kinds of music when I work and a lot of country music, and maybe that leaked into my work this summer. I painted idealized campers, camping, ice chests, and altogether perfect scenarios of a summer day with nary a cloud in sight or a mosquito, I paint idealized life. and perfect summer days. I paint what I love.
