This piece is one of the last I did of the Mountain Wall series where the hay is being harvested. The interesting thing to me, having no real farming knowledge at all, is how haying is done. I see it from a hill down to a valley and although this is not that exact view, I am always curious about the green grass. It is like once they cut the hay and bale the hay and make a hay bale, there are these humps of ochre just laying on this field of bright green. It is really beautiful. Obviously, I make it more idealized and the colors are heightened but the haying is a mid summer reality that smells good, looks good and is fun to paint.
