This is a painting I did sitting outside my studio, looking out at our various outbuildings. We have a house called a farmette according to the County, which means I believe, that at one point it was a small farm. Now it is a 2 acre paradise but just plain old house in the Bon Air part of Richmond, Virginia. We are on a busy street, live 7 minutes from downtown, yet when I am in my studio looking out, there is no way to believe you are anywhere but an old fashioned farmette, surrounded as I am by a chicken coop, a garden folly, a carriage house, and 2 rickety garages. This little house serves no purpose at all except it is simply adorable. It is the"Garden Folly" according to historical books about this area and house. It truly just sits and looks lovely and legend has it that it actually belonged to our neighboring house that is a lovely gingerbread, Victorian, violet colored home (with similar woodwork) , who up and moved their house back in the late 1800's when they realized they were maybe a little close to this one and bought a lot of two more and moved over. Maybe the Garden Folly was left out of hassle and cost?  I love to paint it though so appreciate that it stayed close by.
