Week One, June 10-15, 2012

Open Week
The Open Week is a week long session aimed at the artist who is not in need of instruction but would benefit from the experience at Nimrod Hall. Aside from an opening reception and a closing walk-around viewing, there will be no formal critiques or activities. The participants of this week will work and be motivated by their surroundings, their fellow artists and the inspiration of Nimrod Hall. This week is for the experienced artist who craves open time with no schedules and distractions who does not need the guidance of an artist in residence. All artist mediums are welcome, as well as photography.

Medium: All media, oil paint and mixed media
Diego Sanchez comes to Nimrod as an artist-in-residence for the first year. His work focuses on incorporating figurative elements in non-traditional ways. His work focuses on experimentation, with new materials and new techniques. The perfect instructor for a new energy and direction in your work.

Medium: Oil Painting
Andras Bality will be coming to Nimrod for his third summer although has painted in Bath County for several years, as well as extensively around the James River and Richmond. A professional artist, Andy has won many awards for his work and has shown in galleries nationwide. His work is loose yet focused and shimmers in his own unique way.

Medium: Oil painting
Sara Linda Poly teaches outdoor landscape painting classes and workshops through the Art League School located at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia. Presently she is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters and the Oil Painters of America.

Week Three June 24-29, 2012
Curney Nuffer or Open Week

Medium: oil or acrylic
Although a portrait painter by vocation, Curney Nuffer is best known for his painting classes he teaches in Richmond. He works in plein air as well as still life with his style reflecting his extensive work with Moscow’s Surikov Institute Painters. Born and raised in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia, this is Curney’s first summer At Nimrod Hall.

This week will accept the more advanced painter, looking to find their own voice and is not for beginners or people in need of technical instruction. This is a more flexible week for artists to come who need group energy and want to work with less structured time. Input and critique will be on a case by case basis.

Rosalie Sunderland Day White or Ellie Cox

Medium: Oil Painting
Rosalie comes to us as a valued instructor at the Beverly Street Studio School in Staunton, VA. She has her BFA from Lynchburg College and is the recipient of many awards and honors in the field of oil painting including Award of Distinction from the Peninsula Fine Arts Center. Rosalie focuses on plein air landscape painting while at Nimrod.

Medium: Watercolor Painting
Ellie Cox comes to Nimrod for the first year as an instructor, bringing with her the vibrancy and energy of herself as an artist as well as her beautifully lumimous paintings. Ellie teaches workshops all over the world and has many awards for her works.

Week Two, July 28 to August 4, 2012
Charlotte Morgan
Charlotte Morgan Writer-in-Residence
Charlotte Morgan holds an MFA in Fiction from VCU. One of her stories is included in the recent Pushcart Prize Collection. Her novel, One August Day, was nominated for the 1999 Virginia Fiction Award. She served a year as a visiting writing professor at Hollins and has published extensively in short fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.

Week Three, August 4 - August 11, 2011
Charlotte Morgan
Week 3 will have a slightly different format than Weeks 1 and 2, offering each participant considerably more unstructured writing time as well as the opportunity to do freewrites and peer conferences with other attendees at times of their choosing. Morgan will have an individual conference with each writer during the week.
