Oil on Paper
Framed Under Glass/Thin Black Frame
This a rare piece I did on on gessoed paper. Gesso, a chalk like glue protective coating is painted on the paper to keep the oil from seeping through and destroying the surface (the exact reason canvas or board is also coated with gesso). It is rare that I work on paper and that is not for any good reason, I actually really enjoy it and like the way the paint sits on the surface. I do tend to paint thickly and that can promote cracking when the surface is less rigid so my works on paper tend to be less thick and more fluid. I do love this piece, however, and it has been hanging in my house for awhile. It was from our trip to Miami a few years ago, yes a lifegruard, but basically just abstract.
