She is from the painting, Bunting and Stripes, that is large and this little one is very small. Her whole reason to exist is an ongoing rain that we have had and the sun came out and she was painted. I say she is from the larger painting because she has on the same skirt, but maybe she just has the same skirt!
She is, as some of you may have guessed who follow my work, the laundry lady. At some point over the summer, she evolved. I am not sure how that happened and it was not a matter of just changing her clothing. Last year I did a painting with a woman in pink, who was one of the first of her truly without her black and white uniform on, although she has had occasional forays into other clothing. At any rate, she, as my friend Joan said, just paid down that broom. Maybe she will pick it back up but I hope not. She has paid her dues.
