This painting was one that was quick to present itself and then took me a long time to get right. Sometimes I can fly through a work and it just is easy but this one had to be treated with every area taking my attention. I am not sure why, but the pink dress is a hard one to pull off, and the composition of her on the back porch of Nimrod Hall, was, while clear in my head, harder to establish with my paint. For that reason she is especially beloved to me.

She is, as some of you may have guessed who follow my work, the laundry lady. At some point over the summer, she evolved. I am not sure how that happened and it was not a matter of just changing her clothing. Last year I did a painting with a woman in pink, who was one of the first of her truly without her black and white uniform on, although she has had occasional forays into other clothing. At any rate, she, as my friend Joan said, just paid down that laundry. Maybe she will pick it back up but I hope not. She has paid her dues.
